Last Week

So I spent the whole of last week sewing away. I made this super cute quilt for my little man. It was fun to do because even though I had a tutorial I had to figure most of it out myself because I changed the size of the stripes from 3in to 4in. It turned out just how I wanted and I can't wait to get to use it.

I also made this beauty. I had a ton of fabric left from the quilt so I decided to make this car seat cover up.  I didn't have one with Daphne, but always wanted one. I think it will be great to have to keep little Daphne hands away from him when we are in the car and it will help keep the cold weather out.

Speaking of cold weather our little family is heading north this fall. Johnny ended up not being able to finish up med school here in Atlanta like we were hoping. So we are headed to Baltimore sometime in Sept.-Oct. I'm not very excited about it. I'm going to miss it here and I'm not looing forward to moving with a newborn. But that's life and I've done it before and I'm hoping it will be our last time.

Daphne had her two year well check up and is doing just great she is 28lbs and I can't remember how tall. I love her so much. She is just the best little girl in the world (and I'm not bias at all). She is so smart and always surprises me with how quickly she picks things up. She also is so sweet. The other day in the grocery store she just kept wanting to give me hugs. It took us twice the time it usually takes to shop, but I didn't mind one bit. We are having a little party for her next week for her Birthday and I can't believe she has been in my life for two years It has gone by to fast! I keep thinking about how we really only have 16 more years with her and I am realizing that time is going to fly by. I love that I get to stay home with her and soak her up. Johnny always says its not fair that I get to be with her all the time and its not. I'm glad I get to be the mommy!

A whole lot of the same

Since being here in Lamar we really haven't been doing much. We are home all day, everyday. Johnny studies and Daphne and I play. Seems like the story of our lives. Johnny has the date for the STEP set up for the 6th of June. It seems to be coming up fast.
Daphne is continuing to grow. She is officially mobile. She has been rolling for awhile and was very good at getting where she wanted to be, but she started scooting this week. Right now she looks a lot like some one beat her up. She fell of the bed and got carpet burn on her nose and then Nana took her out on the porch swing and she came back with a split lip. She also is going to get her two front teeth in any day now.

As for me I have not been doing to much just my daily chores and a little bit of sewing. I made this dress for myself and really love it. I was so excited it turned out so well. I've never made a dress for myself before. I helped my mom make my 8th grade graduation dress, but she did most of it. I just watched her. This dress had a couple of things  was nervous to try: pleats, pin tucks, and pockets. The whole time making the dress I would say I can't do this and then I would sit and figure it out and then look at it and would just say "I LOVE IT!" It turned out pretty cute.
School is going to be over for the kids next week, Joey will be coming to visit and the pool will be opening, so our little schedule will be changing I think.

T-shirt Blanket

So I did another sewing project. I have known I wanted to do this for awhile. I love all our shirts from Dominica, but they are not the type of shirts that I would love to wear for the rest of my life. So perfect solution.

Now I got the tutorial for this on Pinterest of course, so if you want to make t-shirt blanket too then head here for the full tutorial.

I do have some pointers.

Be careful when your cutting out the t-shirts. They all have different fabric and some are stretchier that others. Also make sure you have a lot of seam allowance. You want to have wide seems so you have room to cut the fringe. Oh speaking of cutting the fringe. Make sure you cut the fringe when the tutorial says to. I didn't and it mad it so I couldn't cut fringe on the corners because they were sewn down.

I think that is all. This was a very simple quilt. You really have a little room for error. For me this was just to save some memories more than having a "perfectly beautiful" quilt. So if the seams aren't perfectly straight or your X's are crocked. So have fun with it. That's why we sew anyway, isn't it?

X for stability.

Make your rows first then sew them together to get a.......

Quilt!

Scripture Case

We all know about Pinterest and I found this gem there. I wish I had better skills, some of the seems are not that straight, but I think it turned out pretty nice. It was really easy and someone starting out in the sewing world can do it, so if you have some scriptures that need to have a cozy place to call home, try it out.
